Help sought for critically injured man

Friends of a Minden man critically injured in a car accident are asking the public for a helping hand.

Harry "Les" Anderson, 29, suffered several broken bones, collapsed lungs and damage to his kidney, spleen and diaphragm when his car was rear-ended in a Wednesday accident on Stephanie Way.

Anderson was driving west in a Ford Escort when he slowed for a car in front of him. The Escort was hit from behind by a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 30-year-old Rebecca West. The impact sent his car into the path of a Toyota Four Runner driven by a 17-year-old girl.

When the vehicles smashed together, both were knocked onto their sides. The girl escaped with bumps and bruises, but Anderson had to be cut out of the mangled car. He was transported to Washoe Medical Center by CareFlight helicopter.

Family friend Michelle Harris said the precariousness of Anderson's accident is made worse by the fact that he was on his way to take his 8-month-pregnant wife Becky to the hospital. She was scheduled to have her breech baby turned in her womb. The couple have two other children, Sean and Kelly.

"He had a surgery yesterday afternoon and another last night," Harris said. "He is expected to have even another surgery."

Harris said Anderson will likely be in another unit of the hospital recovering from his injuries when his baby is born.

Contributions to help the family with the financial crisis can be made to the Greater Nevada Credit Union at 911 East Second St. in Carson City. The account for deposit will be in care of Becky Anderson.

Anderson's co-workers at the Carson Sav-On Drugs have also been distressed by the circumstances of his hospitalization.

"Everybody was totally in shock," said Assistant Manger Maida Walter. "We are really praying for him."

Harris has worked for more than seven years at Sav-On, most recently as a receiving clerk.
