Letter: Don't let Black Rock become like Red Rock

I wonder if the Black Rock Desert area Sen. Richard Bryan is trying to get the federal government to grab will end up being another Red Rock Canyon-type place.

While Red Rock is advertised as being a nice wilderness experience, to us who enjoy being able to drive on dirt trails and see the land as it was 100 years ago, Red rock is about as natural as Las Vegas. The canyon views are magnificent, but the crummy cramped 20-space campground is a sham.

If one-foruth of the money spent on the interpretive building was spent on having a campground with widely spaced campsites, it would be a nice place.

All the roads are blacktop with boulders and wooden barricades to prevent any travel from their "superhighway scenic drive." Very definitely it is designed as "day use only." Maybe the casino resorts are afraid of the competition, as if those of us who enjoy primitive camping could stand the glitz of Las Vegas.
