Dear Nevada Appeal, Carson Community Access Television and Pinon Plaza:
Thank you so much for the honor of begin named Carson City's Artist of the Year. To be nominated was in itself a large distinction, not to mention being in the same company as Stephanie Arrigotti, who has thrust Western Nevada Community College's musical theater program into such prominence in all of Northern Nevada, and Carol Foldvary-Anderson, whose works in the visual arts are a constant reminder of our artistic vibrancy here in Carson City. My hat's off to both of the other nominees as well as the recipients of the many other nominations and awards.
From the many places where I have studied or worked as a theater artist, I can clearly say that Carson City not only shows genuine interest and respect in the arts, but is a clear leader in promoting and sustaining a dynamic artistic culture. When other school districts are cutting these programs, Carson forges ahead in its recognition that this is an important area to cultivate for the well rounded human being. The amount of live theater, musical concerts and art classes that our community sustains is also an obvious indicator of our artistic integrity.
The distinction that was paid to all involved in the Carson City Community Awards was made possible, however, by you sponsors who, chose to keep this tribute alive. Again, I thank you all for the recognition.
In closing, I would also like to again thank my parents, Lee and Virgil Stidham, who have instilled in me a hard work ethic as well as the access to the tools through which I ply my craft. Thanks, too, to my husband John and children Michon and Bryna who have always been supportive of a wife and mother who wears so many hats. I love you all and pay homage to you, as well as to my community, who have given me so much.
KAREN CHANDLER
