Lowe's Home Improvement Hardware's plans for a Carson City Eagle Hardware store are up for city approval this week.
The Carson City Regional Planning Commission will decide Wednesday on a special use permit for the hardware giant.
Lowe's plans to build a 135,197-square-foot store at the Silver City Mall on the corner of Fairview Drive and Roop Street, former site of Ernst Hardware. The development includes a 28,071 square-foot garden center and seasonal display area.
Plans call for the demolition of the Ernst store and other buildings at the mall. Sav-On Drugs and Office Depot would remain at the location.
Lowe's would be the third so-called "big box" hardware and home improvement store in the Carson area. Supply One is open in south Carson and Home Depot plans to open in Douglas County just south of the capital's city limts sometime in February.
Other items up for discussion include:
- The 15 acres of land slated for the potential Costco development is proposed for rezoning. The land is zoned for public use but was zoned on the city's 1996 master plan for commercial use. The commercial zoning would allow the development of the 148,000-square-foot Costco warehouse and gas station. Costco should appear before the planning commission for approval of their special use permit in February.
