Moving Dayton utilities discussed

YERINGTON - Dayton Utility staff may finally get to move into a larger facility.

A proposal to move the Lyon County Utility offices in Dayton to the former Thiel/Winchell building at 34 Lakes Blvd. will be presented today to Lyon County Commissioners.

In his agenda request, County Engineer Dan O'Brien said the present location next to the fire house in old Dayton is too small for the current operation and is a safety concern.

"The office has no provisions for privacy. With such a small office there is very little storage space and so things are stacked 8 feet high," O'Brien said.

The proposed office is 1300 square feet in size and would be leased at $1168.20 a month.

The Public Health Nurse and Juvenile Probation share the current building and, if the move is made, would take over the vacated space.

Utility officials have spent the past several years looking for a new location for the growing operation. At one time the utility and county discussed purchasing the proposed new site and planned to lease out unused space. The project never came about and the building was eventually sold to others.

The commissioners meet at 9 a.m., today, in the Courthouse Annex, 31 S. Main St., Yerington.

Other agenda items include:

-- Presentation by the Lyon County Logo Committee of a new county emblem.

-- Possible approval of a development agreement between Lyon County, Millard Ferguson and Rolling "A" Ranch to establish a site and conditions governing the building of a wastewater treatment plan on Rolling "A" property east of Dayton.

-- Possible approval of an economic development grant of $1.5 million to Lyon County and the Silver Springs General Improvement District to construct a wastewater treatment facility in Silver Springs.
