A response to J.T. Breeden's letter to the editor Friday, April 21.
The next time you drive on the streets of this city, take the time to glance to your left and right. You will notice that there are sidewalks on both sides of most streets (pathways no less) that are for the public use, paid for by the property owners and maintained by them.
If you wish to drive in any direction across or around this city, that's your choice. Or if you do not have an automobile, skates or bicycle, then be our guest, walk on our paths (sidewalks). If you have children and they are in the house hooked on TV and computer, turn the power off and take them with you.
Now I ask you, how will the few users of this path who live a half mile or more from this path get to it? I guess they will have to drive, skate, bike or walk except for the drivers. Some may be too tired to continue and will return home never using the new path.
Now there is another shovel at the tax trough that wants to spend our tax money on greenery along the bypass. Now I ask you, where will the money come from to pay for continuous maintenance and replacement? Also, where will the water come from? I guess the homeowners could be held to one day or two a week for watering. That should solve their problem and give us a green bypass and dead lawns and flowers.
Come on, Carson City taxpayers, let's tell the governor, the state board of transportation and the rest of our so-called city government to get off the path and hit the road. Or better yet, put it to the voters of Carson. I mean all of us, not just a few pedal-pushers.
