Newspaper on Storey commission agenda

VIRGINIA CITY - Requests for a special use permit and business license for another local newspaper are among the items on Tuesday's agenda of the Storey County commissioners.

Douglas Truhill requested a special use permit for a home occupancy business at 905 South E. Street to publish a community newspaper, the Nevada Territorial Register. The printing would be done off-premises and the paper would have a small staff, the permit application said.

The special use permit was approved earlier by the Storey County Planning Commission, with the condition that the yard around the house must be cleaned up and that no newspapers can be stored at the residence any longer than one week.

Since that action, Truhill applied for a business license for the Nevada Territorial Register, which the county commissioners will consider on Tuesday's agenda.

The Territorial Enterprise, the Comstock's hometown paper off and on over the past 140 years, is being revived as a weekly news magazine next month but it will be published in Carson City.

The Storey County commissioners' meeting will begin at 10 p.m. in the district courtroom of the courthouse.

Other items on the agenda include:

-- A special use permit for a sewer treatment plant to handled 350,000 gallons a day from the developing Tahoe/Reno Industrial Center. The plant could eventually be expanded to handle 4.3 million gallons a day when the industrial center is fully developed. Other items relating to the industrial park include a landscaping easement and a quit claim deed of dedication.

-- Discussion and possible action on whether to increase the number of Storey County commissioners from three to five.

-- A request that about 10,000 square feet of land at 345 Howard be sold at public auction.

-- Discussion and possible action on Truckee River Ranch property water rights.

-- Discussion and possible action approving a lease agreement between the county and the Gold Hill Historical Society.
