Obituary: Donald Lau

Donald Morgan Lau, 72, a Carson City resident since 1988, died Dec. 17, 1999, at his residence.

Private family services were held in Virginia City.

Mr. Lau was born Aug., 8, 1927, in York, Penn., to Morgan and Edith Lau. After his parents died, he worked on a farm until 1944, when he joined the U.S. Navy and served on a minesweeper and as a cook on President Harry Truman's yacht.

In 1956, he married Geraldine Woods.

Mr. Lau spent most of his working career in the baking industry as a salesman.

His hobbies included working in his work shop, playing with his computer, and watching Bugs Bunny, but most of all being a great dad and grandpa. He was known by his grandchildren as Grandpa Donut because of his fondness for coffee and donuts.

Among his survivors are his sons, Mitch, of Reno, Jerry, of Southern California, and Rocky, of Carson City; his companion, Lisa Johnson; brother, Skip, of York; sisters, Charlene and Judy; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
