YERINGTON - A revised proposal for a residential development east of Dayton will be presented to county planning officials today.
Rolling "A" Ranch owner Christo Bardis will request approval of a tentative map and special use permit to build 750 homes between Highway 50 and River Road, about five miles east of Dayton. This follows a request by Rolling "A" representatives at the commission's Sept. 14 meeting to postpone the hearing, citing a need for additional time to address public concerns.
Dave Heffern, representing the project engineering firm of Thiel Engineering Consultants, said the current map design has taken into consideration concerns of area residents regarding lot sizes and access to River Road and Cardelli Road.
"There are no lots under 8,000 square feet, with more than 50 percent of the total being larger than that," Heffern said. "In our continuing efforts to satisfy concerns expressed by local residents, we have changed our plans at least four times from the originally proposed 908 homes to the current 750."
Among concerns expressed by residents during numerous public meetings was the inclusion of 6,000 square foot lots, lack of a four lane access to the development off of Highway 50, fear of increased traffic along the western portion of River Road and the ability of the two lane portion of Highway 50 to handle the additional traffic the development will create.
The revised map was posted at the Oct. 6 Dayton Regional Advisory Council meeting and met with a unanimous recommendation of denial.
Councilmember Bud Southard said, "They have failed to address our previous recommendations. We have spent a lot of time with this and it is important they meet our expectations."
The was no representation from the Rolling "A" at the council meeting.
