Prosecutors seek to revoke Murphy's bail

LAS VEGAS - Prosecutors have filed court papers seeking to revoke the $300,000 bail of accused murderer Sandy Murphy.

Chief Deputy District Attorney David Roger also asked District Judge Joseph Bonaventure Monday to keep Murphy's co-defendant, Rick Tabish, behind bars.

Murphy and Tabish are charged in the Sept. 17, 1998, murder of gambling figure Ted Binion. They are accused of pumping Binion full or drugs and suffocating him. Murphy was Binion's live-in girlfriend.

Last week Murphy's attorney, Bill Terry, asked Bonaventure to release Murphy from house arrest and reduce her bail to $100,000. Tabish's lawyer, Louis Palazzo, requested that bail be set for his client, who has remained behind bars on no bond since his June 24 arrest with Murphy.

In his responses Monday, Roger said both defendants should be in jail because they are flight risks now that they've been ordered to stand trial for murder in Binion's slaying and know the massive amount of evidence prosecutors have compiled against them.

Meanwhile, Binion's daughter, Bonnie Binion, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in District Court Tuesday against Murphy and Tabish.

In the three-page complaint obtained by the Las Vegas Sun, Ms. Binion, the 19-year-old heir to her father's $50 million estate, accused Murphy and Tabish of ''engaging in a secret sexual relationship'' and plotting her father's murder.

Prosecutors believe Murphy, 27, and Tabish, a 34-year-old Montana contractor, were having a romantic relationship before and after Binion's death.

The younger Binion is seeking general and punitive damages against Murphy and Tabish.
