WASHINGTON - About 50,000 children's robes are being recalled by the manufacturer because they do not meet federal fire safety standards, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.
The robes, made by Federated Department Stores, Inc. of Cincinnati, are not flame resistant. All children's sleepwear, including robes, are required to be flame resistant, to prevent the possibility of serious burns.
Federated has not received any reports of fire-related injuries.
The recalled robes are made of 100 percent cotton terry cloth and sold under the brand names Aegean, Baby Monarch, b kids, Charter Club, Club Room and Jr. by Monarch. They cost from $25 to $52 at major retailers nationwide.
The robes, which came in a variety of colors and prints, feature a wrap style with a waist belt, two front patch pockets and a hood. They were sold in boys and girls sizes 12 months to 14 and sizes small through extra large.
The robes should be returned for a full refund to the store where they were purchased. Consumers can call Federated Department Stores at 800-364-6190 for additional information.
