The third annual Spring Wings Bird Festival begins Friday in Fallon.

The festival runs through the weekend with tours of Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge, Carson Lake, Anaho Island in Pyramid Lake and other birding sites in the Lahontan Valley wetlands.

A special tour to introduce children to the "wonders of wetlands" is also on the agenda.

The wetlands are home to more than 250 species of birds.

Preregistration is required for many of the events. The festival is sponsored by state, federal and military groups as well as bird societies and area businesses.
