Storey Commissioners to consider industrial center ordinances

VIRGINIA CITY - Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center is the subject of several items on Tuesday's agenda for the Storey County board of Commissioners.

Ordinance 163 would approve a development agreement between the county and the developers, while Ordinance 164 would create a general improvement district to provide utility services to the center, supported by taxes on the property within that district.

Both ordinances are up for second readings, the stage at which the commissioners hear reports on the proposals and discuss them, and for public hearings.

A service plant for the general improvement district also is scheduled for public hearing, discussion and possible approval.

Developers' representatives are expected to review their plans. And representatives from Sierra Pacific Power Co. are expected to submit and explain the utility's objection to how utility services are proposed to be provided through the general improvement district.

Tahoe/Reno Industrial Center, formerly the Asamera Ranch , is owned by three Reno businessmen who also own the South Meadows Business Park in Reno - L. Lance Gilman, Roger W. Norman and Don Roger Norman. Gilman also owns the Carson-Tahoe Harley Davidson dealership in Carson City.

Three-quarters of the park is in Storey County, the remainder in Lyon County.

The meeting is scheduled at 10 a.m. in the Storey County Courthouse.

Other items in the agenda include:

-- Approval of planning commission minutes from Jan. 6, including a special use permit to allow drilling of at least two test holes at 1141 C St. in Gold Hill by Virginia City Exploration LLC.

-- Consideration of whether to increase the number of county commissioners from three to five.

-- A request from the Escarabajo Buggy Club for permission to conduct an off-road rally May 27.

-- An agreement with the Nevada Department of Transportation for passenger transportation systems.

-- A request that a 10,120-square-foot parcel at 345 South Howard St. be put up for public auction at minimum $4,000 bid.

-- Possible discussion or action concerning the county brothel ordinance.
