Take a walk through historic Carson

Carson City's seventh annual Ghost Walk along its historic Kit Carson Trail is scheduled for Saturday. Ghost Walk visitors will be treated to hair-raising stories and ghoulish anecdotes related to the history behind Carson City's buildings.

The walk is a self-guided tour through a series of open houses. Walkers can purchase tickets and pick up a map from the starting point at the Nevada State Museum. Organizers have planned three-hour, self-guided tours so that walkers can go at their own pace and savor the atmosphere of the historic district.

The Victorian architecture and stunning turn-of-the-century houses with gingerbread trim are spectacular to see. The tour also enables visitors and residents alike the opportunity to share in this history and enjoy a firsthand look at life behind closed doors that hide secrets of past times.

At each open house Ghost Walkers will be permitted to enter and will be regaled with ghost stories, history of the homes and anecdotes about their inhabitants. Professional actors are joined by the Carson High School Drama Department to bring the history of the West to life in skits portraying Carson City's favorite ghosts. Attendees will be protected by the Nevada Gunfighters.

Ghost Walkers will be able to visit the Olcovich-Meyers House, the Roberts House, Kitzmeyer Building, Norcross Home, Brewery Arts Center, Cohn House and Rinckel Mansion.

The Kit Carson Trail, location of the annual Ghost Walk, is open year-round as a self-guided walking tour. For walkers interested there is a recorded "talking" history available on AM radio covering 24 of the houses.
