A third southbound lane will be added to Highway 395 between Highway 50 and Jacks Valley Road this summer.
As part of an 11-mile repaving project on the highway into Douglas County, the Nevada Department of Transportation planned to widen the highway to three lanes from the Douglas County line to Jacks Valley Road.
With the advent of the Costco project and the proposed stoplight at Old Clear Creek Road, a third lane half a mile long from Highway 50 to the county line was added.
Northbound dual left-turn lanes onto Clear Creek Road will also be added for a total of seven lanes at that intersection - the largest intersection in Carson City.
State transportation spokesman Scott Magruder said Douglas County will be paying for the third lane on its side of the line and Costco will pay for the lane in Carson City. The state will pay for the paving of the third lane in both counties.
The repaving and road widening is part of a $9.6 million project slated to start in June. Magruder said most of the work is expected to be done at night and could stretch into next spring if paving is not completed by this fall.
