Two students wounded in possible gang-related shooting at high school

LAS VEGAS - Two students were shot Monday afternoon outside Clark High School in what police believe may have been a gang-related crime.

The students were shot in the upper arm, and the wounds were not life-threatening, said Clark County School District police Officer Sgt. Ken Young.

One of the victims was a 16-year-old boy who was treated and released from University Medical Center, said Trish Lampro, hospital spokeswoman. The other victim, a 15-year-old boy, was listed in fair condition, she said.

Two people were taken into custody following the 2:30 p.m. shooting, but additional details were not immediately available, said Mary Stanley-Larsen, school district spokeswoman.

Phone calls to Las Vegas Metro Police were not immediately returned.

Classes for the day had been over for more than one hour when the students were shot, she said. At least one of the suspects jumped a wall bordering an apartment complex near the school before the shooting, but it was unclear if the suspects were on or off campus when they fired the shots, Stanley-Larsen said.

Other students retreated into the school building when the gunfire erupted, Young said.
