RENO - After a month of vacations, the University of Nevada, Reno started up again Tuesday at 8 a.m.
About 12,500 students returned to classes.
As part of "Welcome Back 2000" activities, students can participate in comedy, cinema, dance, vaudeville and sports programming in the student union through Jan. 30.
A few changes will also be coming to the campus.
The Frandsen Humanities Building, which is 83 years old, will be remodeled and retrofit to withstand earthquakes.
The loading dock at the south end of the 42-year-old Jot Travis Student Union will be enhanced.
New buildings under construction include the University of Nevada School of Medicine's Pennington Medical Building and Education Building, a Student Services Building, and a 259-student residence hall complex.
