Voter registration hits year-long high

As of the end of August, there were 913,450 active voters registered in Nevada - the highest since September 2000 just before elections.

Nevada clerks registered 4,329 new voters in August.

"I like to think that the increasing number of voter registrations and active voters in Nevada signals a growing awareness of the value of voting and political participation," said Secretary of State Dean Heller.

Democrats experienced the greatest increase during August, adding 1,777 voters to their total. Republican registration rose 1,538. Statewide, Democrats now hold a 1,973 voter lead over the GOP.

There were also 175 additional minor party registrations in August and 839 new voters who listed themselves as non-partisan.
