Boy hurt in dirt bike-vs-truck accident

A 14-year-old Carson City boy was seriously injured Tuesday when his dirt bike ran into the side of a Chevy truck, according to police.

The boy was taken by Care Flight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center.

According to Chief Deputy Scott Burau of the Carson City Sheriff's Department, the teenager was southbound on Edmonds Drive about 3:15 p.m. when he failed to yield to a Chevy truck driven by Stacey Krouse as Krouse turned from Edmonds Drive west onto Butti Road.

"He ran into the passenger side of Krouse's truck," Burau said.

The passenger side window was shattered and the door caved in. Krouse was uninjured.

The boy's mother, who arrived with his 6-year-old sister shortly before her son was whisked away in an ambulance, was told by a paramedic her son appeared to have two broken legs.

"It's very, very important that when you guys drive up (to Washoe Medical Center) you drive safely," he warned.

The dirt bike was unregistered and shouldn't have been used on a public roadway, Burau said.

The boy will be cited for failure to yield. He was wearing a helmet.

A nursing coordinator at Washoe Medical Center said the teen was still being evaluated at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.
