The focus will be on the economic outlook for tourism in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001, and the rise of Indian gaming at the annual Governor's Conference on Tourism this week in Reno.
Frank Fahrenkopf, head of the American Gaming Association in Washington, D.C., will give those attending on Tuesday a "state of the gaming industry report." Fahrenkopf is a former Nevadan.
The subject of Indian gaming and its potential economic impact on the state will be addressed by William Eadington, director of the Institute for the Study of Gaming at the University of Nevada, Reno. He will be joined in that discussion by Jim Baum of Ak-Chin Casino in Texas and Anthony Miranda of the California Nations Indian Gaming Association.
Most of the conference will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center with registration set Monday and the first real business sessions beginning Tuesday morning.
Gov. Kenny Guinn will attend along with Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt.
The keynote speaker is Bill Norman, president of the Travel Industry Association of America. He will discuss "The Road to Recovery" in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
The conference winds up late Wednesday.
