The first in a series of keepsake ornaments depicting historical landmarks in Carson City went on sale this holiday season.
A Laxalt Building ornament, a one-dimensional metallic tree-hanger, can be purchased for $15 at local shops.
The Carson City Redevelopment Authority came up with the idea to create a series of ornaments meant to highlight the city's historic culture and "get people interested in the area," said Robin Williamson, city supervisor and chairwoman of the redevelopment authority board.
Five hundred ornaments were produced this year by an East Coast manufacturer. They are being sold at cost by the city to local shops who can make a profit on them, Williamson said. That way the city also will be helping local shops, she said.
To find the ornaments visit the Laxalt Building gift shop, The Purple Avocado, Lofty Expressions, Treasure Baskets, the Brewery Arts Center, Sugar Pine Cove or the Carson City Convention and Visitor's Bureau gift shop.
