Services to be held Friday for Supervisor Plank

Memorial services will be held Friday for Carson City Supervisor Jon Plank, who died suddenly Dec. 27 while being treated for pneumonia.

The services will begin at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, at the corner of North Nevada and West Musser streets in Carson City. Plank, 65, was an ordained elder of the Presbyterian Church of Lamoille and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City.

Burial will follow at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Friends and associates were saddened by Plank's death. Reports indicated the city supervisor fell ill early last week and was admitted to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia Dec. 26. He died the next afternoon.

Plank was first elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1996, following his retirement from the Nevada Employment Security Department, where he worked for 32 years.

Plank sat on Gov. Mike O'Callahan's Planning Council for Manpower Revenue Sharing and the Governor's Task Force for Alternative Uses for the Nevada Test Site.

Plank was an active member of the Carson Sertoma Club, an organization that helps children who have hearing and speech disabilities.

As a supervisor, Plank was chairman of the Regional Transportation Commission, served on the Parks and Recreation Commission and Senior Citizens Advisory Council, and was the city's representative on the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's governing board. Plank's term would have ended in January 2005.

The public service is expected to be well attended.

"Anybody that wishes to attend can attend," said Jim Smolenski, general manager of FitzHenry's Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements.

Plank is survived by his wife, Rita; sons Al Plank of Elko and Louis Plank of Bountiful, Utah; daughters Marlene Turk of Elko, Dee Ann Wilkie of Carson City, Briana Dilorio of Las Vegas and Cheryl Dahlinger of Carson City; and 18 grandchildren.
