James P. Griffin died Jan. 26, 2002, at his Jacks Valley home, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. He was 75.

Mr. Griffin was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on April 27, 1927, to Josephine and Frank Griffin.

He served his country in Europe during World War II as a member of the 42nd Rainbow Division. He lived for several years in Bradford, Pa., before moving to the West.

At various times in his life he owned his own business, worked as a ski patrolman, and was employed by Sahara Tahoe as an engineer. Mr. Griffin studied genealogy, enjoyed writing, and had a strong interest and connection to his Irish heritage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Mike Griffin; children, JoBeth Lynch, James Griffin, Jay Griffin, Jeff Griffin, Lloyd Brown, Michelle Brown, Patrick Griffin and

Colleen Quantrell; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life was held Friday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville followed by internment at Eastside Memorial Park.
