Storms drops a little moisture

Light rain and snow in higher elevations accompanied a storm that rolled through Western Nevada on Tuesday.

There was a winter storm warning in effect Tuesday with forecasters predicting up to 18 inches of snow above 6,500 feet.

A high-wind warning was in effect through Washoe Valley.

The weather is expected to ease up today, with high temperatures in the upper 40s and west winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour, said Mark Brown, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Reno. There may be stronger gusts up on the peaks.

Temperatures likely will drop this evening into the 20s but sunshine is expected to make an appearance Thursday morning.

According to Brown, Thursday and Friday will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 50s. There is a slight chance of snow Saturday, which should clear up by Sunday.

Visiting skiers and snowboarders enjoyed a rain-free morning Tuesday, but dampness caught up to them by afternoon.

"We were at Sierra-at-Tahoe this morning," said Paul Chodkowski, who is visiting with his family from Niskayuna, N.Y. "There was about 6 to 8 inches of new powder, but around noontime, it started sputtering. When we drove down through South Lake Tahoe it was starting to rain."

Chodkowski said he was hoping to wake up to fresh snow this morning.

"Hopefully, tonight the temperatures will drop and we'll get some nice freshies for tomorrow," he said Tuesday afternoon.

South Lake Tahoe resident Jesse Jacobs, 8, said he isn't very fond of the brisk weather.

"It's been cold," he said. "When it snows you have to wear snow pants, gloves and boots but staying out of the puddles keeps me dry."

Jesse said he hopes for warmer weather

"My favorite kind of weather is when it's sunny because the sun beats the snow."
