Fiegehen still at large

In an effort to prompt new leads, Douglas County law enforcement officials on Wednesday released details of the Feb. 10 slaying of a Johnson Lane man in his home.

Alan Chorkey was stabbed to death with a folding Harley-Davidson knife that murder suspect Christopher Allan Fiegehen showed to his ex-girlfriend two nights before the Feb. 10 homicide, according to documents made public by Douglas County prosecutors.

The knife, purchased Jan. 30 at a Harley-Davidson store in Carson City, was allegedly used in the early morning slaying of Chorkey and the attack on his wife, Lorelle Chorkey, in their Johnson Lane-area home.

Fiegehen remains at large. He is charged with murder and attempted murder. The Chorkeys are the parents of Fiegehen's former girlfriend, Alane Dockstader.

Prosecutors said deputies found Lorelle Chorkey covered in a "nightgown soaked in blood." She suffered gunshot wounds to her head and shoulder and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Before undergoing emergency surgery on Feb. 10, Chorkey told investigators she saw Fiegehen during the struggle.

Dockstader told investigators that on Feb. 8, two nights before the incident, Fiegehen had showed her the knife.

The knife was purchased with a credit card that Fiegehen reported stolen after the incident Feb. 10.

An employee of the Harley Davidson store identified Fiegehen, 23, through a photo lineup as the man who bought the knife.

Investigators say the knife was embedded point down in the wooden upper deck a few feet from where Chorkey's body was discovered.

Investigators also allegedly discovered blood traces in Fiegehen's Carson City home on Feb. 11.

The information released Wednesday contains sworn statements made by Douglas County investigators.

The information is part of an effort to renew public attention to the case, said Deputy District Attorney Mark Jackson.

The "quantity and quality" of public assistance has diminished in the 18 days since Chorkey's death, Jackson said.

Investigators need the help of the public in their search for Fiegehen, Jackson said. "Time is going quickly."

On Feb. 10, after allegedly breaking into the Chorkey's Becky Avenue home near Stephanie Way, Fiegehen drove to a friend's house in Carson City and loaned her his 1999 Ford Mustang in exchange for a pickup truck he wanted to use to go snowboarding.

Prosecutors said Fiegehen's friend, Barbara Hubert of Carson City, loaned Fiegehen the 1994 Ford pickup truck after he said he didn't want to drive his Mustang into the mountains.

Hubert told deputies she watched Fiegehen load a snowboard and equipment in the truck.

Investigators have also learned that Fiegehen sold a used snowboard, ski jacket, ski pants, goggles and gloves to a Truckee, Calif., snowboard shop called Totally Board for $305.

The borrowed pickup was found Feb. 11 near the Truckee, Calif., train station.

Hubert was pulled over Feb. 10 while driving to Incline Village in the Mustang after a bulletin was issued for Fiegehen's car following the attacks.

Hubert told investigators she saw blood on the driver's side car door after she borrowed the Mustang. She cleaned off the blood with a tissue.

After seizing the Mustang, investigators discovered blood on the driver's door, steering column and gear shift.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigation started Feb. 10 at 5:08 a.m. when dispatchers received a 911 call from the Chorkey home.

Lorelle Chorkey told the dispatcher her husband was involved in a "struggle" with a man outside on her deck. The call ended abruptly and return telephone calls placed by dispatchers didn't go through.

Deputies later found the phone cord ripped from a wall-mounted phone. The telephone's handset and cord were found lying near a pool of blood.

Four officers responded to the scene, where they found Alan Chorkey hunched over in a kneeling position. He had suffered a severe wound to the face, prosecutors said. He was pronounced dead at the scene after bleeding to death.

Detectives also found a Volcom baseball-style hat that Dockstader said she gave to Fiegehen.

Dockstader, 18, had a restraining order against Fiegehen issued on Jan. 26. She told investigators that Fiegehen threw a rock through her car's windshield on Jan. 12 while the car was parked at a friend's house.

The couple had dated since May 1999.

Shattered glass from a patio deck door was found at the scene. Deputies also found gunshot holes in the floor, wall and shower stall in the bathroom.

A plastic bag containing .357 magnum shells was found in the Chorkey home's master bedroom near the victims.

Dockstader also told investigators that Fiegehen owns a handgun purchased at a Gardnerville gun show in 2001.

Fiegehen is about 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has very short dark brown hair that is sometimes bleached blond. Fiegehen has blue eyes and both ears are pierced.
