America's Most Wanted, a nationally televised program which publicizes criminal cases in which the suspect is still at large, is in Douglas County this week to profile alleged murderer Christopher Fiegehen.

Fiegehen is wanted in the stabbing death of his estranged girlfriend's stepfather and attempted murder of her mother.

"We are looking into that story and have a crew in town today shooting, doing research and checking out the scene," said Kim Newport, program spokeswoman. "We do plan to do a segment, but haven't scheduled a show."

Fiegehen, 22, allegedly stabbed to death his estranged girlfriend's stepfather, Al Chorkey, 50, in Chorkey's Becky Lane home early on Feb. 10. Chorkey's wife, Lorelle, 52, suffered gunshot wounds and is recovering in a hospital. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office admits leads in the case have become stale in the third week of the manhunt for Fiegehen.

The 14-year-old TV program, hosted by John Walsh -- a victim turned celebrity whose own son was abducted and murdered in 1981 -- has helped in the capture of 695 of the 2,296 fugitives profiled to date, according to the show.

On Wednesday, footage was taped of the Johnson Lane-area location of the murder as well as an interview with investigator Keith Logan of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department .

"Our crews will be spending as much time as they need in the area to gather the elements for the show," Newport said.

"The victim's family is cooperating with us, but they are going through a tough time right now and we are also respecting that," she said.

Newport said Walsh will not be in the area for any of the taping.

The program was contacted for help by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.

"The whole reason behind this is to ask for the public's help in identifying and locating Christopher so he can be apprehended. It's for the safety of the public as well as his," said Douglas County Deputy District Attorney Mark Jackson.

A tentative date of March 9 has been set. America's Most Wanted airs on Fox Channel 11 Saturdays at 9 p.m.
