A Carson City day-care center victimized in a burglary Tuesday night found benefactors Thursday morning in the form of parents and businesses ready to replace goods taken by the bandits.
"I prayed and I prayed like no other," owner Carrie Henson said from Little Tykes Child Care Center on Roop Street.
Wednesday morning, Henson discovered her business had been burglarized of at least 80 children's videos, 42 children's music CDs, two portable stereos and a sleeping bag.
The pain of that reality lessened early Thursday morning when parents dropping off their children also dropped off new videos.
By 9 a.m. Henson had been contacted by Les Schwab tire store manager Kirk Buck, who said his business wanted to replace the goods.
"We saw the story in the newspaper and decided we had to come out and give these kids a hand," Buck said. "It's a perfect opportunity for us to help."
He said he and Henson will go shopping Monday.
The burglars themselves may also have contributed to the recovery.
On Thursday, Henson discovered a pillowcase in the yard with all of the stolen CDs and 13 of the videos inside. The loot hadn't been there the previous day.
"I think guilt must have gotten to them," Henson said. "But the guilt wasn't bad enough, because they haven't returned them all. Maybe they'll bring back a little every day."
Henson was pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of support from the community.
"I have asked the police to close the case. Everyone has been so wonderful. I'm just going to let karma get (the burglars)."
