A Carson City man was arrested Thursday and charged with battering a peace officer after an altercation with Deputy Rebecca Zuniga-Brown resulted in breaking her right ring finger.

Deputies were following up on a burglary report when they encountered Elijah Deluna. According to the sheriff's report, Deluna resisted arrest while being taken into custody for previous warrants.

He allegedly broke away from Zuniga-Brown's grasp, running north on Edmonds. When she caught him, the report states, Deluna continued to "violently flail and run," knocking Zuniga-Brown to the ground and breaking her finger.

Deluna was again grabbed by deputies and they reportedly found a bag containing about 11.4 grams of possible methamphetamine along with a glass pipe with burned residue inside.

They allegedly also discovered stereo equipment and possible burglary tools in Deluna's vehicle.

In addition to battery, Deluna was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and burglary tools, along with previous warrants.

His bail was set at $60,260.
