Highway 395 through Coleville is now open. The highway was closed by the 8,600-acre Gate Fire Complex, which is burning in the Monitor Pass Area about 40 miles south of Carson City.

The largest of the three fires making up the Gate Complex, the Slinkard fire, is continuing to burn west into the Slinkard Wilderness Study Area.

The fire is still south of Highway 89, which connects Topaz with Highway 4 to Markleeville. Highway 89 remains closed indefinitely.

Firefighters expect the Slinkard to continue to grow depending on weather conditions.

There are no evacuation advisories in effect for the area.

The Gate Complex fire command has moved from Coleville to Douglas High School in Minden.

There are 1,020 people fighting the fires along with helicopters and air tankers.
