A Carson City woman is in critical condition and four others were taken to area hospitals after an automobile crash Saturday morning.

At approximately 10 a.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to a two vehicle crash on Genoa Lane approximately 1-1/2 mile east of Highway 395.

Preliminary investigation shows a gold 1988 BMW four-door being driven by 20-year-old Matthew Ronald Baker of Reno was traveling eastbound on Genoa Lane when it drifted right and the driver over corrected sending the car into the path of a pickup.

The white 2002 Chevrolet pickup was being driven by 55-year-old Richard Allen Underwood of Reno who was traveling westbound on Genoa Lane. The right front of the BMW struck the left front of the pickup.

Baker and Underwood received minor injuries and were transported to Carson-Tahoe Hospital. A passenger in the BMW, 28-year-old Jennifer Marie Sherman-Miller of Carson City received multiple injuries and was transported to Washoe Medical Center by Care Flight. She is listed in critical condition in the trauma center's intensive care unit.

Sherman-Miller's two son's ages 2 and 3 years both received minor injuries and were treated at Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

All involved were wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor and at press time it was unknown why the BMW drifted to the right. Any violations will be pending the completion of the investigation and review of the Douglas County District Attorney's Office.
