A memorial service for David Fread Brown, 83, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Carson City.
Mr. Brown died March 10, 2002, at the veterans hospital in Reno. He was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Ottawa, Ill., to Edward D. and Emma Mae Wright Brown.
He moved to Reno in 1999 from Dayton. Before that he lived in Yucaipa, Calif.
Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army for 37 years, retiring in 1978 as a sergeant first class. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Pacific Theater, based primarily in the Philippine Islands.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in California. He loved to bowl and bowled on a league in California. He also loved growing roses and trains. He was an Episcopalian.
Among his survivors are his wife of 61 years Jeannette of Reno; son David John of Modesto, Calif., and daughters Michele Lanzino of Carson City, Jeanne Ann Bradbury of Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Elizabeth Marie Martinez of Reno; 10 grandchildren and four great-granddaughters.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
