3,000 fish splash down in Carson River

The Carson River east of Carson City was stocked with 3,000 trout on Monday.

The 9-1/2-inch trout were hatched and reared at the Nevada Division of Wildlife fish hatchery on the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area near Yerington.

Included in the Monday plant were 2,500 rainbow trout and 500 German brown trout.

The stocking was done by Pat Kelly and Kari Martin of the state hatchery. They were assisted by Norm Budden, president of the Ormsby Sportsmen's Association of Carson City.

The fish were released into the Carson River at Brunswick, Deer Run and Lloyd's Bridges.

To reach Deer Run Bridge, take U.S. 50 east to the intersection of Deer Run Road. Then, take Deer Run Road to the bridge.

To reach Brunswick Bridge, leave the pavement at Deer Run Bridge and take the small dirt road on the left. Follow that road downstream to the old, unusable Brunswick Bridge.

To reach Lloyd's Bridge, take Fifth Street east, past the roundabout. Take the Carson River Road to the bridge.

The Carson River fishing limits are five trout, 10 mountain whitefish and 15 warmwater game fish, of which not more than five may be black bass.

Needed is a Nevada fishing license and a Nevada trout stamp to fish for the trout. This area is routinely patrolled by state game wardens.

In addition to the Monday plants at those three Carson City bridges, the state also stocked another 2,000 trout in the Carson River at locations near Dayton.

The fish plants are part of the regular stocking of waters in this area with trout reared at the Mason Valley fish hatchery. Other Carson City waters planted include Ash Canyon Creek and the Carson City portion of Lake Tahoe.
