Obituary Willis Arthur Reil

Willis Arthur Reil, 90, a Gardnerville resident for many years, died March 27, 2002. He was born Oct. 24, 1911, in Redmond, Wash., to Frederick A. and Lucy M. Brown Reil.

He graduated from Redmond High School in 1927 and attended Success Business College in Seattle, Wash., from 1928 to 1929.

He married Esther L. Blake of Tonopah in 1947. She died in 1950 in Carson City. He married Etta Rigg in 1970 in Virginia City. She preceded him in death in 1995 in Carson City.

Mr. Reil began employment with the Nevada Highway Department in 1935 as a chainman and retired as chief reviewing appraiser in 1971. He was also employed by the Alpine County Assessor's Office from 1978 to 1989.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45 during World War II. His tour of duty took him to Algeria, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany with the 727th Railway Operating Battalion. He was discharged in 1945 as a technical sergeant.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 1006 and the Benevolent & Protective order of Elks Lodge 2177, both in Carson City; the Amity Lodge No. 4, Free and Accepted Masons, Silver City; the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Kerak Temple of the Shrine, both of Reno; Capitol Post No. 4, American Legion, Carson City; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9972, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Snowshoe Thompson Chapter 1827, E Clampus Vitus.

Among his survivors is his nephew John Reil of Carson City.

No service is scheduled.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
