About a dozen merchants within one block of Telegraph Square have combined their talents and wares for a Mother's Day celebration in downtown Carson City from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Shoppers and visitors will be treated to free tea tastings, chocolate-dipped strawberries, hand paraffin waxes, flowers, music and more.

The Mother's Day fete is just one of many events the co-op group has planned for the year.

Doreen Mack, of Lofty Expressions, said the group is collaborating on an art festival, "Arts and Jazz with all that Pizzazz," to take place toward the end of summer. She said plans are for each shop to feature a different artist with more artists performing on the street.

"We're in the process of putting this together now," she said. "Were just a bunch of businesses working together to make (Telegraph Square) a place for community events."

The group is also planning to present Thursdays on the Square. Throughout the month of June entertainment and more is planned from 5-8 p.m. in the Square.

The group's largest event is Santa and Live Reindeer held at Christmas time in conjunction with the lighting of the state and city Christmas trees.

For information on events or to sign up as an artist for the art festival call Mack at Lofty Expressions 883-1951.
