After nearly eight months of negotiating, Carson City's teachers and school district officials have struck a tentative deal to be presented at Tuesday's school board meeting.
"I think we're in a good position to see this be resolved," said Richard Stokes, associate superintendent of human resources. "We've both settled on certain terms and we agree that it's something we feel good enough to take back to the board."
Board members will receive the tentative agreement in a closed session before the regular meeting. During the public session, they will vote to accept or deny the proposal.
If denied, both parties will go back to the negotiating table in an effort to strike a deal before scheduled arbitration in June.
If the negotiators were to go into arbitration, both sides would each submit a proposal and the arbitrator would choose one over the other, rather than find a compromise.
Officials have been reluctant to talk about the specific provisions contained in the tentative contract but all details should be revealed at the school board meeting.
The contract determines salary and benefits for the district's teachers.
