Candy canes and reindeer, scores of holiday decorations and assorted baked goodies will be featured at the 12th annual Santa's Village Craft Fair today and Sunday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center.
With more than 40 crafters participating in the event, this weekend marks an opportunity for some to get a head start on holiday shopping.
"There's one special item I'm really thrilled about," Dorothy Crosby said. Crosby is the manager of the center's gift shop.
"They're bird houses made with lumber from an old barn in Austin. The man's name is Ralph Quintel.
"These bird houses are really unique. They have tin roofs and everything. We sold out of them last year, because they are really different."
In addition to handmade crafts, Crosby said an abundance of baked goods and candies will be sold. "Nanny Mac's" peanut brittle will be available, as well as a wonderful assortment of cookies from the ladies at the Worldwide Church of God in Reno.
"They donate to us twice a year," Crosby said. "For the Senior Follies and for our Santa's Village. They're really a wonderful group of ladies."
Afghans and quilts, Christmas decorations and trim-a-tree with all handmade ornaments will be in the center of all the hubbub. Barbara Tonge, administrative assistant with the center, has donated a Victorian doll house for raffle.
"Mildred Johnson did some interior upgrades on the house," Crosby said.
Homemade chili and chili dogs are a big hit too at Santa's Village. About the time the chili's on, live entertainment will be performed at 11 a.m. A drawing for a Thanksgiving basket will be held Sunday at noon. A fresh turkey is included in the basket, tickets will be available Saturday and Sunday prior to the drawing.
Proceeds from Santa's Village will go to the Meals on Wheels program.
