Tourism future to be discussed at session

The state of the travel industry and its

outlook will be among topics explored at

the 19th Annual Governor's Conference on

Tourism in Reno Dec. 9-11

William Norman, president and CEO

of the Travel Industry Association of

America of Washington, D.C., the nation's

chief tourism industry trade organization,

will address the conference on the state of

travel Dec. 10.

Following Norman's keynote address,

Peter Sealy, founder and CEO of Los

Altos Group management consultants of

Los Altos, Calif., will talk about the future

of tourism.

Also speaking will be Frank

Fahrenkopf, president and chief executive

of the American Gaming

Association, and William Eadington,

professor of economics and director of

the Institute for the Study of Gaming at

the University of Nevada Reno.

Eadington also will moderate a panel

on the State of Indian Gaming.

The conference, which draws about

1,000 delegates, will be at the Atlantis

Casino Resort and the Reno/Sparks

Convention Center.

Much of the conference will be

devoted to adventure, the main theme

and the title of the gathering, "Putting

the Adventure Back in Tourism."

Adventure speakers include Lisa

Odynski of the 2002 U.S. Olympic Team

women's giant slalom snowboard on

"Going for the Gold" and panels of

experts on public lands as adventure venues

and marketing adventure to the travel

and news media.
