A company whose products are wellknown
to fans of televised infomercials is
building a 102,000-square-foot regional distribution
center at Stead.
Tristar Products Inc. of Parsippany, N.J.,
whose many products include the Hairdini
Magic Styling Wand, the ABSculptur and
the Banjo Fishing Lure, is building the center
that will employ between 60 and 100.
Trammel Crow Co. and its construction
company are handling acquisition, development
and construction of the project near
Mount Anderson Street.
The facility is expected to open in
March.
Fosdick Fulfillment Inc. of Wallingford,
Conn., will operate the distribution center
for Tristar.
Tristar, founded in 1992, is a direct marketing
company with annual revenues of
more than $100 million.
It specializes in production and distribution
of televised infomercials.Tristar works
with inventors and entrepreneurs to launch
products through the use of infomercials,
then moves the products into traditional
retail distribution channels.
Par Tolles, area director for Trammel
Crow, said Tristar was sold on a Reno location
for West Coast distribution, and the
company's decision validates the importance
of Reno to East Coast companies.
He said, too, Tristar's decision is a
bright spot in what has been a fairly
slow market for industrial development
in northern Nevada.
The slowdown may be coming to an
end,Tolles said, as activity in the past three
weeks has begun to stir.
