OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. (AP) -- A skier died after colliding with a tree at the Squaw Valley USA resort.

Michael Constantinescu, 31, a resort employee, was skiing with friends when he apparently lost control and struck the tree Friday on the "Olympic Lady" run, Placer County Sheriff Edward Bonner said.

Efforts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead about 40 minutes after the 2:30 p.m. accident.

The sheriff's department is handling a coroner's investigation of the death.
