Obituary: Huel Preston Bell

A graveside memorial for Huel Preston Bell, 78, a Yerington resident for the past 13 years, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, with military honors provided by the Veterans Memorial Association.

Mr. Bell died April 8, 2003 at his home. He was born Aug. 29, 1924 in Prospect, Texas to Huel Joseph and Buelah Hiburn Bell.

Mr. Bell spent more than 20 years serving the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After his service he worked for the U.S. Forest Service.

Mr. Bell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the volunteer fire department in Willows, Calif., where he had lived for many years.

Among his survivors are his wife, Anna of Yerington; son, Phillip of Upper Lake, Calif.; daughter, Tonya Galbraith of California City; brother, Leo, of Denton, Texas; sisters, Marie Hooper of Wyone, Texas and Shirley Yeargan of Anthony, Fla.; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
