Assembly adopts interstate sales tax agreement.

The Assembly voted Tuesday to adopt the streamlined sales and use tax agreement designed to allow states to start closing loopholes that let people escape sales taxes.

Taxation Chairman David Parks, D-Las Vegas, said SB514 paves the way to begin collecting taxes from Internet sales.

The bill puts Nevada into an interstate compact where all member states agree to support each other's sales tax laws and to collect taxes for each other.

Each state would create and maintain a central electronic registration system allowing sellers to register to collect and remit taxes imposed in each state to other members of the agreement. That would allow states to collect taxes for each other from buyers who go out of state to make major purchases.

The bill was approved 37-5. It goes to the Senate.
