Conference will focus on luring high-tech

An economic conference next week in Las Vegas will focus on efforts to attract high technology businesses to the state.

The Nevada Commission on Economic Development Conference August 21-22, features Angelos Angelou, an economist who helped transform Austin,Texas, into a one of the country's major technology towns.

Angelou, principal of AngelouEconomics, will talk about the keys to Austin's success and discuss his research on efforts in Nevada.

Other speakers at the conference include Amy Holloway, vice president of Economic Development for AngelouEconomics, who will conduct small, interactive workshops on marketing to the tech sector; Jeff Finkle, president and chief executive officer of the International Economic Development Council, who will discuss how economic development can affect local economies; Nevada Taxpayers Association Executive Director Carole Vilardo, who will talk about the 2003 legislative sessions and the resulting tax changes; and Misty Young, co-chair of the Communications Committee for the American Council for Renewable Resources Group, who will discuss use renewable energy to create jobs, drive up revenues and economic value, and create a sustainable economy.
