The first paving job in Reno that uses a microsurfacing product has been wrapped by Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc.

The work involved First Street from Arlington to Keystone.

The 120,000 square feet of surface was leveled, then capped with microsurface a composition of polymer asphalt emulsion and selected fine local aggregate Howard Sund, an assistant civil engineer with the city, said the city expects the microsurface will outlast the traditional overlays that required attention every three to five years.

"It is our hope that with the money saved, we can repair more roads," Sund said.

Microsurfacing products previously have been used by Washoe county Doug Olsen and Justin Tenpenny of Intermountain, a unit of Granite Construction, were superintendents of the project..
