Arrow Electronics, which will add about 100 jobs at its Reno distribution facility, doesn't expect any difficulties in finding qualified applicants.
John Gable, director of logistics, North American components, for Arrow, said the company based in Melville, N.Y., added 30 jobs at Reno in the early months of this year and had no problems finding good candidates.
"We received a very large pool of applicants," he said.
The most successful advertising vehicle, he said, appears to be a banner hanging outside the distribution facility on Maestro Drive and Longley Lane.
Along with the walk-in applicants generated by the banner and referrals from existing employees, the company also has had good success with on-line applications (www.arrow.com), said Jean Sheng, the company's vice president of human resources.
The jobs Arrow Electronics will add through the end of this year come as the company closes a distribution facility in New York State and moves those functions to Reno.
The new jobs at the Reno facility, Gable said, will largely involve pick-andpack order selection work rather than palletized warehousing.
The facility currently employs about 350 people in a distribution operation and a custom programming group.
When Arrow Electronics announced last month that it would consolidate U.S.
distribution operations at Reno, it said the Nevada facility is more efficient.
Gable said last week the distribution center's efficiency comes from its highly automated systems including radio-frequency handheld units used by its crews so the company can better track inventories.
Arrow Electronics moved into the 430,000-square-foot facility from a smaller property in Sparks in 2001.
Gable said the Reno building provides Arrow with substantial room for growth.
