Reno/Tahoe International Airport this spring wrapped up a major remodeling and remerchandising of its retail shops.
It's hard to tell a lot about the effects of the remodeling, however, because revenues-per-passenger the statistic used to track retails sales in the airport have been rising steadily, rising even before the work began.
About three and half years ago, retail revenue per arriving or departing passenger was $5.26; today it's $6.03.
The airport shares in concession revenue, and airport spokeswoman Heidi Berthold says, "Their success is our success." Surveys have found, too, that airport users are happy with the new look.
"We're exceeding the public's expectations," Berthold says of the survey results.
