County commission applications to be forwarded to Guinn

MINDEN - Gov. Kenny Guinn will have a choice of at least 10 Douglas County residents, who are seeking to fill Steve Weissinger's seat on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.

Weissinger's seat officially becomes vacant Dec. 31. County Clerk Barbara Reed must then notify the Secretary of State of the vacancy. Guinn is to appoint a new commissioner once the vacancy has been certified.

Greg Bortolin, director of communications and press secretary for the governor's office, said there is no set time-table for when the appointment will be made.

According to state law, the appointee must be of the same political affiliation as the outgoing commissioner - Weissinger is a Republican - and must have lived in the same district - the Gardnerville Ranchos - for at least 30 days.

The Commission accepted Weissinger's letter of resignation earlier this month after he was jailed for embezzlement from his former employer, Raley's supermarket in Stateline.

The 10 applicants are:

n Elaine Agnason, a 24-year Ranchos resident and past president of both the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Authority and Soroptomist International of Carson Valley.

n Col. James L. Baushke, a three-year Ranchos resident and retired Air Force civil engineer.

n Robert Colescott, shift manager at the Harrah's/Harveys security department and 13-year resident of the Ranchos.

n Gail Davenport, a 12-year Gardnerville resident who co-owns Davenport Landscape, with her husband. She has participated in the redevelopment process and holds real estate licenses in both California and Nevada.

n Wayne Davis, a retired engineer who has lived in the Ranchos since 1998. He is the vice-president of Carson Valley Sertoma.

n Terry Faff, a Ranchos resident since 1997 who regularly attends county board meetings. He is self-employed.

n Linda Gilkerson, a Gardnerville resident since 1992, is actively involved in Stand Tall Don't Fall and Teens Against Tobacco Use.

n Robert Havranek, a retired pharmacist, patent attorney and 12-year Douglas County resident. He was the president and co-founder of the Pleasantview Homeowners Association for seven years.

n Rustan Osborn, a 14-year Ranchos resident who recently completed a three-year tenure on the Carson Valley United Methodist Church Board of Trustees. He is a Minden business owner and a member of the Gardnerville Kiwanis.

n Al Wagner, a 23-year Ranchos resident, who has served on the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District for 13 years.
