Woman crashes car into video store

A woman drove through the glass wall of the Hollywood Video store on William Street on Friday evening after losing control of her Ford Taurus.

"Pretty much the whole car was in the store," said Teale Foster, assistant manager at the store.

The car went over a 6-inch curb, crossed the sidewalk, went though the glass wall, smashed into the new releases rack, hit a table of two-for-$20, previously-viewed DVDs and pushed it into a rack of action movies for rent.

No one was seriously hurt.

"Nobody was standing there at the time which was odd because we did have a fairly good amount of people here," Foster said.

The accident occurred at about 7:55 p.m. when the woman, whose name was not released, apparently entered the lot in a gray, Ford station wagon.

Witnesses say she came into the lot going fast, pulled into the parking spot right in front of the building, but never stopped. It was unclear whether her brakes failed. She was treated by paramedics from Carson City Fire Department but was not seriously hurt.

New releases like "Alex and Emma" and "Bad Boys II" - starring Martin Lawrence and Will Smith - were destroyed.

"Some of the 'Alex and Emmas' were pretty smashed," said Foster. "She must have been going pretty fast to jump that curb."

Del Bye, a Carson man renting DVDs on Saturday, recalled a similar situation at an AM-PM in Fallon.

"You don't have to be going too fast to get over a 6-inch curb," he said. "If you're moving at all you'll get up and over it. I don't know, maybe she thought it was a drive-in movie."
