An estimated 20 guns were stolen from a Carson City gun shop sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, according to police.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong said Old West Guns at 2011 Highway 50 East had its front glass door smashed and the weapons, along with cash, collectible coins, seven car titles and a safe, were taken.

"This causes us a great deal of concern," he said.

Six .44-caliber Ruger pistols, 11 shotguns and three rifles were reported stolen. Two of the weapons were "inoperable collector's items," according to a police report.

An inventory of missing items was unavailable when deputies arrived at the business about 7 a.m. Tuesday, but the owner estimated 11 additional weapons missing, according to the report.

It was unclear if the business sells ammunition and if any was taken, Furlong said.

The safe was found later Tuesday morning by a passerby on Lepire Hill in east Carson City, Furlong said. It had been broken into.

"Anyone with information on this incident, or suspicious activity on Lepire Hill just north of the Fifth Street and Edmonds Drive roundabout, is asked to please contact the Sheriff's office," he said.

Furlong said the Old West Guns burglary is the latest of dozens of residential, commercial and vehicle burglaries the Sheriff's Department has been tracking in December.

"People need to be informed and to take appropriate measures to safeguard their property and ensure they don't needlessly become a victim," he said. "If you do see activities in your neighborhood that are not appropriate, please contact the Sheriff's Department."
