A memorial service for Michael Alan Shearer, 63, a Minden resident for the past 23 years, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church.
There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Gall.
Mr. Shearer died Dec. 29, 2003, at home. He was born July 7, 1940, in Tulsa, Okla., to Albert and Glenys Struth Shearer.
Mr. Shearer worked at Southwestern Bell in Tulsa for 15 years and retired from G.E./Verizon in Gardnerville in 1995. One of his greatest accomplishments was his 26th climb up Jobs Peak. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Gall, a former Rotarian and was very active in AYSO soccer. He was a member of St. Gall.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 12 years.
Among his survivors are his wife, Peggy of Minden; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Kyle Outland of Sparks; daughter Sarah Shearer of Rohnert Park, Calif.; son Jason of Gardnerville; son and daughter-in-law Drake and Christina of Tulsa; sister, Kathryn Walker of Sutton, Wyo.; brother, Phillip of Albany, Ga.; and grandchildren Quintn, Andrew, Emily, Dane and Kendall.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Greater Nevada Credit Union for Sarah's Shearer medical school education fund.
FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
