A memorial service for Harold Lynn McGowan, 67, a Gardnerville resident for the past two years, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville.
Mr. McGowan died Feb. 10, 2003, at his home in Gardnerville. He was born June 26, 1935, in Los Angeles to Harold W. and Grace Wanner McGowan.
He graduated from the University of South California in civil engineering.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Los Osos, Calif.
Mr. McGowan worked for Los Angeles County for 30 years as a civil engineer. He was a member of the Reno Gem and Mineral Club and the Israel Stamp Club in California and the American Philatelic Society. He enjoyed stamp collecting and ran his own stamp collecting and mineral specimen business. He also enjoyed playing tennis and reading.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Among his survivors are his wife, Mary of Gardnerville; sons Sean of Los Osos and Greg of Seattle; and sister, Virginia Krouss of Los Osos.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, NV 89410; or to a charity of choice.
The Neptune Society of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
